Headed to GDC 2025
For the past three or four years, I just couldn’t make the trip to GDC. Its expensive, never enough time to do all you’d want, and possibly culture shock.
But, this year, I have the means to go… for part of it!
In the middle of March is GDC, the Game Developers Conference - the largest networking conference in the videogame industry. And it’s set in the sunny yet ridiculously overpriced standard-of-living San Francisco. The Moscone Center is where the bulk of the action takes place, from deep dives into industry practices like animation and art to heaps of networking opportunities, not to mention the parties. Quite a few of them happen outside its doors. And are free!
I am going for just a couple of days’ worth of it. Two and a half days or so purely of GDC, plus a little time for exploring the city. This is something that I have been looking forward to. A lot. For years. And after talking to a few friends, unrelated to game development, about it, I’m borderline obsessed.
Oops.
When this is your first time where the industry meets, it is thrilling to prepare for it. See the potential!
The goal is to meet game writers, narrative designers, and other developer folks. Either gain professional-level friendships or hunt for hard-to-find job leads. I am guessing that you don’t know this - game writing jobs are hard to find. It takes knowing people, and being in the right place at the right time, to snag a sought-after role all about making fun stuff.
Hoping for a terrific experience. Expecting to learn a lot, and be overwhelmed by everything.
