My Creative Process: This took inspiration from games I hadn’t even played. I had seen gameplay and story bits from The Witcher 3 and Fable 3. I recalled the art style of Kena: Bridge of Spirits, which I also have yet to play. The idea? To take those really good examples and write a piece of third person fantasy screenwriting, making it flexible for use in minor or major plot points.
Incorporating transitions of cinematics to gameplay and back was first task I tackled. Writing in medias res was next, as this takes place after the beginning of the narrative. One tricky part was timing those transition points. Where did I want the cutscene dialogue to cut to gameplay? Another tricky part was writing characters in a compressed space. Overall, I am pleased with how it turned out.
